Questions

What people ask us most

Classes, clubs, repairs and everything in between. If yours is not here, call 443-981-3182, email [email protected], or use Live Chat and we will answer it — and add it to this page.

Classes & clubs

My class has no end time. Why?

Some classes start at 10am with no fixed finish. Depending on your skill level you may finish the project earlier than others, or life happens and you need to leave after the instruction portion. The store closes at 5pm, so you can leave whenever you finish or whenever you need to.

Where is the class supply list?

Supply lists appear in My Account under the Downloads tab once you have registered and paid for the class. We do not hand them out beforehand.

Do I need to bring my own sewing machine to class?

Yes. We have floor models in the store but they are not available to rent during class, and you will get far more out of the session learning the technique on the machine you actually use at home. Bring the power cord, pedal and any accessories you need — ask an associate if you would like help carrying it in from the car.

We do keep a small number of machines to rent at $25/day, but the controls may not match your own, and renting may require a paid instruction session with one of our instructors beforehand. Call the shop to confirm availability for your class date.

Can I get a refund if I cannot make it?

No. Space in each class is limited, so all classes and clubs are non-refundable and all sales are final. Payment is due at the time of registration.

Drop-off & pickup

Do I need an appointment?

No. Bring your machine in during shop hours — Tue–Sat, 10am–5pm, closed Sunday and Monday. Starting the work order online first just means there is no paperwork to fill out at the counter.

What should I bring with the machine?

The foot pedal and power cord, the bobbin case if it is loose, and the accessory box if you think the problem involves a particular foot or attachment. If a specific project was giving you trouble, bring a scrap of that fabric and thread — it helps us reproduce the problem.

How long will it take?

It depends on what the machine needs and whether a part has to be ordered. We tell you the expected turnaround when we call with the diagnosis, and you can check the status online at any point. If you are on a deadline, say so when you drop it off.

How do I know when it is ready?

We email you at each stage, and you can look it up any time at Check Your Work Order using your ticket number.

Do you work on machines you did not sell?

Yes. All makes and models. You do not have to have bought the machine from us.

Sewing machines

How often should my sewing machine be serviced?

Once every twelve months for most people. If you sew several times a week, or you sew a lot of fleece, flannel or batting, a mid-year clean and lube is worth it — those fabrics shed heavily into the hook race.

What does a standard service include?

A full clean of the internals, oil and lubricant on the moving parts, and a test-sew to confirm the stitch quality before it goes back to you. Add the diagnostic if you want tension, timing and electronics checked as well.

My stitches are skipping or the thread keeps nesting. Is that a repair?

Often not. Skipped stitches and thread nests are usually tension, a dull or wrong-size needle, or lint in the bobbin area. Bring it in for a clean and lube with diagnostic and we will tell you honestly whether it needs anything more.

Do you offer emergency or expedited repairs?

Yes, for an additional fee. Tell us your deadline when you drop the machine off and we will let you know whether we can meet it.

Embroidery machines

Can you update my embroidery machine software?

For supported computerised machines, yes. Bring it in with the make, model and serial number and we will confirm what updates the manufacturer has released for it.

My designs are not stitching cleanly. Can you help?

Yes. Tension, timing, hooping and debris in the bobbin area are the usual culprits and we sort them out regularly. Bring a stitch-out of the problem design if you have one.

Do you service multi-needle machines?

We do. Multi-needle is one of the machine types on the work order form — select it and note the make and model.

Sergers & quilting systems

Do you service all serger brands?

We service most home sergers and coverstitch machines. If you are unsure about your model, call 443-981-3182 and we will tell you before you make the drive.

My serger has been in storage for years. Is it worth servicing?

Usually yes. A clean, lube and inspection brings most stored machines safely back to life for a fraction of what replacing one costs.

Do you work on longarm and quilting systems?

Yes — select Longarm / Quilting on the work order form. Call us first for anything frame-mounted so we can talk through what needs to come in.

Cost & warranty

How much will it cost?

We quote you after the inspection, before any repair work starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice. Pricing on the routine services is straightforward — call the shop and we will tell you over the phone.

What is the Complete Protection Package?

A plan that covers your machine 100% for four years. Ask about it when you buy a machine or at the service counter.

Is first-year service included on a machine I bought here?

Machines purchased at Glory Bee’s get first-year service handled through our department. Select “First-Year / Warranty Service” on the work order form.

Still have a question?

The service team is happy to talk it through before you make the drive.
